The heist begins in Star Wars: Rogue One trailer The first teaser for new anthology film is released

On Thursday the first teaser trailer for the movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was released, the film marks a big change for the Star Wars franchise since it will be a separate story from the one that was started in Star Wars The Force Awakens.

The film will be the first movie to be one of the Star Wars Anthology series and will be a stand alone film. It will be directed by Gareth Edwards who also directed the 2014 reboot of Godzilla so he is not new to bringing his vision to old franchises.

Jyn leading her team

This movie is a change for Star Wars simply because no one with the last name Skywalker appears to be in it. Another change is that the score will be composed by Oscar and Golden Globe winning composer Alexandre Desplat instead of John Williams. Williams won many Oscars and Golden Globes including both for his original Star Wars score. This will not be the first time Desplat took on a franchise from Williams since he scored the last two Harry Potter movies and Williams scored the first three. If the music in the trailer is any indication however Desplat will be paying homage to Williams original score.

The main focus of the trailer is Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) who is part of the Rebellion and takes the name rebel to heart. The film has been reported to take place right before the events of the original film Star Wars: A New Hope.

The AT-ATs attacking

A ragtag group that is lead by Erso set out to steal the plans for the original Death Star. It is not hard to come to the conclusion that these are the same plans that Princess Leia gave to R2-D2 for safe keeping. Since the film is set in the past of the Star Wars universe there are things in the trailer that have a nostalgic air to them. The trailer features the Death Star, which we at least know won’t be blown up in this film. The film returns to the original Storm Troopers uniform. The Star Destroyer and the AT-ATs are back.

Genevieve O'Reilly as Mon Mothma

Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma

Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) a rebel leader that first appeared in Star Wars Return of the Jedi (she was originally portrayed by Caroline Blakiston) is in the film. It looks as if there will be plenty for fans of Star Wars to look out for.

The trailer promises that this movie will be action packed. As is the way with Star Wars there are still more questions that the audience has. There is also a lot of fan speculation about the character of Erso but it will probably be a long time till any answers are given. There is also some mystery about who some of the a list cast members such as Mads Mikkelsen, Forest Whitaker, and Alan Tudyk are playing in the film.
