Disney Channel announced Wednesday that it will celebrate the 100th Disney Channel Original Movie with a marathon of their most popular DCOMS.
Disney Channel is celebrating over 18 years of DCOMs. In honor of the 100th one coming out this summer Disney Channel is hosting a multi-platform event that will feature every one of the films ever made. The event being called the “100th DCOM Celebration” kick off on Friday May, 27 with a four day marathon that will feature 51 of the most popular of the films ever made.
There will be encore showings off the movies in the marathon and every DCOM that has been made throughout the month of June. All 100 of the films will also be available on the Disney Channel app and VOD this summer and can be purchased on iTunes, Amazon Video, and Google Play.
The 100th DCOM will be Adventures in Babysitting which is a remake of the 1987 film. The original film was a theatrical release is also known as A Night on the Town in some countries. The remake stars singer/actress Sabrina Carpenter who currently stars in Girl Meets World on Disney Channel and Sofia Carson who was in the 2015 DCOM Descendants.
Disney Channel has had continued success with their DCOMs. DCOMs hold the record of six of the top seven original cable movies of all time with High School Musical 2, Teen Beach Movie, Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie, Descendants, Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension, and Camp Rock. With High School Musical 2 being the top basic cable television movie of all time with its premier having 17.2 million viewers. The High School Musical franchise gained so much popularity that the third installment had a theatrical release and a fourth one is in preproduction. Th first official DCOM is 1997’s Under Wraps, before that the channels movies where called Disney Channel Premiere Films and PremEARS before that.
The marathon will kick off with 2005’s Kim Possible Movie: So the Drama starting at 10:00 AM on May 27. The last one will be Johnny Tsunami at 3:35 a.m. on May 30, which seems like it might be a little late for channel aimed at children.
