Unfortunately for excited fans, Mighty No. 9 has once again been delayed. This pushes the release date of the Mega Man inspired game from February 9th, 2016 back until sometime in spring this year.
In his announcement posted on the Kickstarter, project lead Keiji Inafune explained that the reason for the delay is “rooted in bugs inside the network modes, and specifically problems with matchmaking.” This delay marks the third in the game’s development. It was first pushed back from its original release to September 2015, and then to February 9th, 2016.
Inafune stated two main reasons for the issues: the wide variety of systems the game is releasing on, and that the development team has had to manually reprogram parts of the engine responsible for matchmaking. “Unfortunately, this is all a result of miscalculations on the part of us, the development staff,” he said before offering sincere apologies on behalf of himself and the development team. While this comes as a disappointment to many of the fans awaiting the game, the way that Inafune took responsibility for the setback was admirable.
Since the project was first announced on Kickstarter at the end of August 2013, Mighty No. 9 received an overwhelming amount of support. The game achieved its initial funding goal of $900,000 in less than 40 hours. The project has currently received over 4 million dollars in funding, successfully fulfilling many set stretch goals. These goals increased the amount of platforms that the game will release on, added new characters, and new modes. One of these new modes is the The development team has also released numerous updates over the course of the game’s development, and even granted backers the ability to take part in a poll to decide the design of the character Call.
For those interested in updates on the game’s progress, they can be found on the Kickstarter, the game’s website, and the community site. Once the game releases it will be available on PC, Mac, Linux, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, WiiU, Playstation Vita, and the 3DS.
Editor’s note: Hardcore Gamer reports that the game will be releasing on May 31, 2016. This is according to Best Buy’s release date listing for Mighty No. 9. CommonGeek confirmed that the page still contains that date as of this publication.
I’m a little frustrated, but I’d rather it be delayed and be the hypest shit ever than it come out early and be another fnaf world-style disaster
That’s true. Were you a backer, or just an interested fan?
